So. I’ve been living in Vancouver for two weeks now. It’s funny how life takes turns you would have never imagined. I couldn’t be happier though, this is truly a great place.

These are the pro’s of Vancouver I’ve discovered this far:

It’s a beautiful city – I just love that the city isn’t huge – area-wise – but still feels really big with its many, many tall buildings.

The surroundings – water, mountains, forests, parks, snow. It’s got it all. Amazing really.

The people – being used to the Nordic climate, it’s different here. People are more open and more friendly to strangers. Which is nice of course.

The diversity – 52 % of the people living in Vancouver have a another first language than English. Big fan of the cultural mix.

Coffee shops – They’re everywhere. We’re working at a different coffee shop every day (yeah, that’s where we have our ‘offices’). And walking downtown night time, the coffee shops are filled with people enjoying a cup of coffee while chatting with friends.

Sushi – Now this is just awesome. Sushi is so cheap here. Like less than half the price compared to Stockholm. Gotta love that.

Road signs – I’m not going to explain this. It’s different, but good. Let’s leave it at that.

The Olympics – It’s everywhere. Not all are fans of the city being filled with people in February, but it’s a big deal. Can’t wait to actually see how it’ll be.

The con’s:

I can only come up with one really – the rain. Winters here are really rainy. It’s quite warm, but the rain keeps pouring down. Not that the winters are that awesome back home either with all the darkness, but still. I wouldn’t mind skipping these months…

As you can see the pros are dominating my list. It’s not for nothing that Lonely Planet listed Vancouver as one of the world’s top ten cities 2010.
